Living our Values through Climate Action: Q1 Values at Work Webinars Recap

Early April saw the kickoff of our Values at Work Quarterly Webinar Series. In these first webinars, attended by over 700 ECOM colleagues across the globe, Ana Nicod and the Climate team shared how ECOM’s values come to life through our climate work. The session showed that climate action is embedded in our business. It is closely linked to how we work, how we make decisions, and how we support farmers, communities, and supply chains. The discussion also reinforced that climate change is already affecting our industry through drought, disease, frost and other disruptions, making action and resilience central to how we operate.

Collaboration

Climate action depends on collective effort. Measuring emissions, designing effective interventions, improving traceability and building practical solutions requires input from teams across origins, operations, logistics, commercial functions and support teams. Progress only happens when knowledge is shared, and people work together across regions and functions.

Excellence

The webinar highlighted the importance of strong data, clear measurement, and practical execution. In 2024, ECOM measured 20.1 million tonnes of CO2e across its supply chain, roughly equivalent to the annual emissions of a country like Sri Lanka. This reflects a serious effort to understand where emissions come from and where action is needed most. For ECOM, 93% of our footprint comes from the commodities we source and trade, meaning our biggest challenge, and our biggest opportunity lies in the supply chains we know best. It also shows our commitment to using robust methods and reliable information to guide decisions.

Integrity

Transparency and responsibility were central themes throughout the session. We discussed the need to measure, report, and monitor climate impact honestly and consistently across the supply chain. Integrity means being clear about the scale of the challenge, taking responsibility for our footprint, and ensuring our actions are grounded in real conditions on the ground.

Inclusivity

Climate action must reflect the realities of farmers and local communities. Building resilience is not only about reducing emissions– it is also about supporting people whose livelihoods are already being affected by climate change. Listening to local experience and making sure solutions work in practice is essential to creating lasting impact.

Innovation

ECOM is developing tools and solutions to move climate work forward. This includes Green Meter, our commodity carbon calculator for cocoa, coffee and cotton, which assesses product carbon footprints and supply chain resilience through a score. This also includes the biochar toolbox and methodologies used to analyse deforestation and to quantify carbon value in shade tree systems. Innovation is helping us turn climate commitments into concrete action that can be measured, improved, and scaled.

The ECOM Values shape how we approach climate action across the business. By working together, aiming high, acting responsibly, listening to the people closest to the challenge and continuing to improve our tools and solutions, we can build stronger supply chains and support a more resilient future.
