Maggie’s Cancer Charity – Recent Events & Volunteering Opportunities

In April this year, we launched our partnership with Maggie’s, a London-based charity that helps people take back control when cancer has turned life upside down. Their team of benefit advisors, psychologists, and cancer support specialists offer personalised guidance to help people navigate life with and after cancer.

Since the start of our partnership just six months ago, we’re proud to have raised a total of £3,977 through various initiatives and volunteering activities. Two teams from our London office have taken part in gardening volunteering days...

...and five colleagues even abseiled down the Leadenhall ‘Cheesegrater’ building last week!

So far this year, only 15 people in the London office have used their paid volunteer day, and with just over two months left until the end of the year, Maggie’s has shared several upcoming opportunities that could use our support:

  • • Bake and Brew (coffee morning-style fundraiser in the office) – Maggie’s to provide kits with bunting and cake toppers!)
  • • Letter writing sessions – help Maggie’s centres with writing thank you cards to our incredible supporters.
  • • Hospital Awareness Day – help raise awareness of Maggie's at Barts Hospital. You can make this day your own, help sell our merchandise or just simply help signpost people to Maggie's who may need us.
  • • Help make bunting for our events – Make pom poms to turn into bunting we can use at Maggie's fundraising events!
  • • Sourcing raffle prizes for fundraising events – volunteers can do this in their own office and call up or email companies, or take the team out and source for prizes in the shops around your offices.

More on the raffle prize activity:

This is a great way to get your team involved while making a real impact. Maggie’s will provide a full briefing and toolkit, plus a visit to one of their centres. Past participants have said it was “so much fun and so rewarding.” One team even managed to secure a signed Rory McIlroy hat that helped Maggie’s raise £8,000 at a charity golf event – enough to unlock £192,000 of additional value through Maggie’s benefit advisory services.

So if you’re in the London office, we’d love for you to get involved! By taking part, we can make a meaningful difference in supporting people affected by cancer. Please speak to Lisa (lisa.fernandes@ecomtrading.com) for further details on events or how you can get involved!
